Amid our usual conversations about work, growth, and transformation, let’s pause for a moment. Let’s step back from the daily grind and engage in a deeper reflection—one that touches the core of our existence.

| Life is a dance, and every turn on the stage matters. Move with grace, live with purpose, and leave a rhythm that echoes beyond your time. 💃🏾✨ #DanceYourTurn #MakeYourMark #HillarysMindscape |
This thought struck me recently when I visited my alma mater, Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos Nigeria, to collect my certificate. Walking past the entrance, moving through the familiar hallways, and seeing the faculty buildings, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. Memories of my time there came flooding back—the friendships, the challenges, the moments when it felt like I was an integral part of the school’s journey. Back then, it seemed like we mattered so much, like our presence shaped the very fabric of the institution.
But as I stood there, I realized how much had changed. Almost all my lecturers had retired. New students bustled through the halls, deeply engaged in their own academic journeys. The school’s activities carried on, unaffected by those who had passed through its doors before. It was a humbling moment—life had moved on, just as it always does.
It reminded me of something my father often says, quoting Chinua Achebe: “Life is a stage where every dancer will take his or her turn.”
My turn in that school had passed. It was now the turn of others, and one day, theirs would pass too. Life never stops; the barracks will never be empty. New dancers will step onto the stage, and the music will continue playing. The only question is: how well are we dancing in our turn?
This realization applies to every aspect of life—our careers, relationships, and personal growth. Too often, we get caught up in the race, forgetting that every season has an expiration date. One day, the roles we play today will be history, and others will take our place. The workspaces we manage, the businesses we build, the dreams we pursue—all of them will one day belong to someone else.
This is why we must dance well while we have the stage. Whether big or small, let our actions leave a mark. Let’s build, contribute, and impact in ways that outlive our presence. Because in the end, when the stage lights dim for us, what truly matters is not how long we danced but how well we did.
Let’s make it count.

A beautiful and thought-provoking piece that encourages us to make the most of our time and leave a lasting impact!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with many things that was said, but most of the times life chooses the kind of dances we dance and or it ends in the sense that most of the choices will make in life today and not our choices but we do them to satisfy other people‘s needs like family, wives, children, and so on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts! You're right—life often pushes us in directions we didn’t choose, and sometimes our choices are influenced by the needs of those around us.
Deleteso we can’t blame some people for who they are now who they’ve become,
ReplyDeleteExactly! We can't always blame people for who they are or who they've become—life’s experiences shape us in many ways.
